STARKVILLE
WATER / SEWER DEPARTMENT
Currently
the Starkville Water/Sewer Department has 19 employees and is on
call 24 hours a day. The Police Department answers and dispatches
the Water/Sewer Department calls after hours. The department phone
number is 323-3505. This number is answered 24 hours a day.
The
Water/Sewer Department has 134.4 miles of water pipe inside the
city limits of Starkville. This is a constantly expanding figure
as the Water/Sewer Department is expanding into the newly annexed
areas around Starkville.
To
keep up with demand and prepare for the future, currently we have
under contract a new well, overhead tank and filter plant on Bluefield
Road. The Water/Sewer Department has just completed a new filter
plant at the Curry Street site. A new water tank on Scales Street
is currently under bid. Many changes are on the way for the Water/Sewer
Department.
At
the present time the Water/Sewer Department is currently hiring
a full-time crew to exercise water valves and inspect fire hydrants.
In the past this was shared by the Fire Department and Water/Sewer
Department, but now in order to keep up the fire rating for the
entire city of Starkville it will become an integral part of the
Water/Sewer Department services.
Because
of the global-political climate we now live in, the Water/Sewer
Department well operates and the superintendent are attending classes
and workshops to best determine our vulnerability, to recognize
the various threats to public utilities, and to meet new regulations
that are being put in place such as vulnerability assessment.
The
Water/Sewer Department answers calls both for the water and sewer
service. As we look into the future, the Water/Sewer Department
is constantly striving to keep the quality of our product high and
also stay current with demand and future expectations of the people
who live and work in the City of Starkville. The Water/Sewer Department
makes every effort to respond to customer concerns, so please let
us at the Water/Sewer Department know if we can be of service to
you, our customer.
