Fire Chief Charles Yarbrough joined the Starkville Fire Department in June, 1995. Training Officer Yarbrough worked his way through the ranks of fire suppression and was promoted to training officer in May, 2008. He holds numerous certifications and a large number of state and national classes. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration / Fire Prevention Technology from the University of Memphis, a Masters in Executive Fire Leadership from Grand Canyon University, Chief Yarbrough is a Mississippi State Fire Academy Instructor and a Certified CPR instructor. He was appointed to Fire Chief March 30, 2015.

The fire chief is an appointed position which has accountability for day to day operations, comprehensive growth plans, personnel, fire rating issues, fiscal, budgetary, safety, and legal issues related to the work for which this position is responsible.

It is my distinct pleasure to serve as Fire Chief of “Our” department. Maintaining our vision, our mission and our goals continue to be the motivation for moving the department forward. I truly believe the Starkville Fire Department is dedicated to making the community a safe place to live, work, and visit. As the leader of this department, I will be fair, honest and consistent. As a department, we will be honored to serve our citizens and guests. We will accomplish this by following our Mission Statement, “The Starkville Fire Department is committed to serving and protecting the citizens of Starkville and all who enter our city.” and our vision statement, "Service Before Self."
