Public Parks
The Starkville Parks and Recreation Department maintains seven city parks. Facilities include two public swimming pools, tennis and racquetball courts, baseball, softball and soccer fields and play areas and equipment for small children.
Hunting, Fishing & Water Sports
Hunting, fishing, bird watching, hiking, boating and water skiing are all available within a very short distance. Spanning 47,000 acres, the Noxubee National Wildlife is a man-developed waterfowl refuge with two lakes, nature trails and a bird sanctuary. Fishing is permitted in all refuge waters, and hunting is allowed in selected areas. Public land and private hunting clubs also provide an abundance of hunting opportunities. https://www.fws.gov/refuge/noxubee/ Oktibbeha County Lake and the Tennesse-Tombigbee Waterway are nearby for swimming, boating, skiing and fishing.
Tennis
Tennis courts are located on the MSU campus, at Starkville Country club and in the city parks system.
Fitness
Starkville offers several fitness clubs which offer one-time guest fees.

If you are visiting an MSU Student or Faculty member, you can be their guest at the Sanderson Center, a state-of-the-arts recreational facility including indoor swimming pools, racquetball courts, basketball courts, weight rooms, and more.
Golf
Golfers will find some of the finest greens in the South in the Starkville area. The 18-hole Mississippi State University golf Course was recently named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." The student-maintained facility is also one of Golf Digest's Top 10 Public Golf Courses in the state of Mississippi. Other courses include Dogwood Golf Club, set in the Highlands Plantation residential community off Hwy 82 East, and nearby Elm Lake Golf Course.

An 18-hole course that is recognized by Golf Digest magazine as a Top 10 Public Golf Course in the State of Mississippi, recognized by USA Today as a Best Golf Deal under $50.00 in Mississippi and rated as a 4-star course by Golf Digest 2000 "Places to Play".
