MSU was established in 1878 as a land-grant institution under the Morrill Act, and charged with a three-fold mission of teaching, research, and service. MSU now has an on-campus enrollment of 16,000 students and over 5,000 faculty and staff.
The Division of Continuing Education offers a wide variety of short courses, seminars, and special training programs for industries.

Mississippi University for Women
Located in Columbus (26 miles East of Starkville), Mississippi University for Women is a coed institution of higher learning.
