The progress Starkville has made in recent years has led to the need for a traffic engineer. The city is growing with the Hwy 182 area developing, yet it is still a two-lane road with traffic lights that appear to be on timers (with 2 schools accessed from it).The traffic lights on 182 are set to change in such a way that prevent the flow of traffic during busy times. There are a few issues in the downtown area as well.At the intersection of Montgomery and University facing Northbound in the left turn lane, the signal only lasts long enough for one vehicle to turn.Traffic has increased on DL Connor coming from both the North and Southbound lanes, but no changes have been made to the signal.A traffic engineer could benefit both the city and the university in regard to planning for crowds attending events at MSU which brings revenue to the city as well. Our roads and traffic signals need updating to allow for greater ease when traveling through town particularly during high volume times.

The new Kroger parking lot does a disservice to the expanded and renovated store. The aisles are too narrow and the spaces too close together, presumably because, per order of the BOA, medians were required and the parking spaces had to be changed from slanted to straight. I don't know if any accidents have occurred yet, but if not, I expect there will be many. Just yesterday, in order to avoid hitting another car, I had to triangulate out of a space (because the truck parked immediately across the aisle from my car was not pulled up all the way into the space and there wasn't enough room left for me to back out without multiple forward/reverse maneuvers). I've heard many complaints from other residents, as has Kroger. Surely some engineering/design can be done to improve this situation for one of the flagship businesses of Starkville.

The intersection at Lampkin and South Montgomery is four-way with turn lanes, and moderated only by stop signs. Probably six times in the last year I have witnessed near-accidents at this intersection from people who did not completely stop or yield right-of-way at this intersection. I feel that the intersection is unsafe in its current condition. My suggestion is to install traffic lights to better moderate the flow of traffic.

Bikers need a safe way to cross from the trail head on S. Montgomery and Locksley to the bike lane on S. Montgomery heading north.
