1. Our garbage/rubbish was not picked up on its scheduled day, what should we do?

Although these are separate issues, city residents are always welcome to call the Sanitation Dept. to arrange pick-up 662-323-2652.

2. There is a holiday coming up, will my garbage/rubbish pick-up day be changed?

There is a possibility. Upcoming holidays are listed on the holiday schedule and will mention how your collection schedule will be altered.

3. What time should garbage/rubbish be placed curbside for collection?

All garbage, yard trimmings, rubbish must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection.

4. How do I dispose of paint or oil?

Call Sanitation Dept. for further instructions.

5. What are considered unacceptable curbside items?

Antifreeze, deceased animals, construction material, chemicals, paint, poisons, helium tanks, tires, tree stumps, dirt, bricks, heavy rocks, oil or highly flammable material.

6. How do I make a complaint?

7. Does trash have to be bagged?

Yes, it must be bagged. We do not pick up loose trash or leaves.

8. I just purchased my first home or I'm new to the area. How does trash pick-up work in the City of Starkville?

The City of Starkville Sanitation Dept. picks up all residential trash. We do not provide residential customers with a trash can, however, we do supply trash bags for pick-up once annually during a set timeframe. The details are announced to inform residents.  Residents may also choose to purchase their own trash cans.  We will remove all bagged garbage from trash cans.
